AXIOMA METERING WINS TENDER IN ITALY SURPASSING THE MARKET’S GIANTS

The Lithuanian manufacturer of meters Axioma Metering won the tender for installation of 100 thousand new generation water meters Qalcosonic W1 in Apulia Region, Italy. Axioma Metering participated in the tender organised by the largest Italian water supply company Acquedotto Pugliese together with its partner and outstripped such global leading manufacturers of metering devices as Sagemcom (2 billion euro turnover) and Arad Group (250 million euro turnover, market capitalisation – 1.44 billion euro).

The project volume for installation of 100 thousand meters amounts to 6.5 million euro. It is currently the largest project involving smart meters in Italy and the largest project in this field in Europe providing for the use of IoT technologies.

“In the past several years, the Internet of Things has been one of the trendy phrases of the technology industries. We can only be proud that we are among the first in the world to be offering the cutting-edge technologies used in energy accounting. This victory gained in Italy is comparable to the statement that Qalcosonic W1 meter is currently technically the most advanced and competitive meter in the global market,” said Ignas Vosylius, CEO at Axioma Metering.

According to him, the company’s technical requirements towards the metering devices were very high. The functional criteria comprised as much as 80% of the total scope, which demonstrates that Acquedotto Pugliese was looking for the most advanced technology instead of the lowest price.

The main objective of Acquedotto Pugliese is to reduce water losses in the Apulia Region. The company is determined to resolve several issues: how to efficiently use the available water resources, measure water consumption more accurately and efficiently manage the water supply networks.

“I believe that this tender will become the building ground in the Italian market. Acquedotto Pugliese is the utility services company managing the largest technological base in Italy, which sets the technological standards for the entire market. The fact that this company tested and chosen out meters will not go unnoticed by other market participants oriented towards the technological novelties,” stated Vosylius.

He is hoping for a future cooperation with Acquedotto Pugliese. One hundred thousand meters are only the first stage of the project. It is expected that the company will install 1 million new generation metering devices in this region. “The launch of the project involves our meters, therefore, we will have a prominent advantage in the future tenders for the subsequent development of this project,” he added.

n September 2019, Axioma Metering landed the project for supply of smart water meters operating in the IoT network of a similar volume, which is being currently successfully implemented in Oman.

Qalcosonic W1 meter is one of the most universal energy meters on the market. The company is planning to present another version of the meter with the alternative NB IoT (Narrowband Internet of Things) technology in February. Axioma Metering will become the first manufacturer of meters offering both LoRa WAN and NB IoT connection options.

AMS Water Metering supports AWA program in Vietnam

AMS Water Metering is supporting the Australian Water Association and the Australian Government’s program to increase access to safe drinking water in schools in rural Vietnam.

Through the installation of small scale water treatment technology systems, the program is providing safe drinking water for over 2400 students in four separate schools that didn’t otherwise have access to safe drinking water. These schools are Dien Tan Primary School and Suoi Tien Primary School in Khanh Hoa Province, and Chieng La Primary School and Nong Lay Primary School in Son La Province.

AMS Water Metering donated Qalcosonic W1 ultrasonic water meters to help with monitoring the consumption of water and supporting sound maintenance and operation procedures.

“AWA are very appreciative of AMS for donating their meters for this important project. Our partnership with AMS Water Metering allows the collection of water consumption information by local operators of the drinking water kiosks and more informed decision making by the school, rural water authorities and the central government of Vietnam”, said Paul Smith, AWA International Manager.

“Access to clean, safe drinking water is something that we take for granted in Australia but is not always the case in many developing countries. AMS Water Metering is proud to be supporting AWA and the Australian Government in this important program to bring safe drinking water to rural schools and villages in Vietnam”, said Andrew Riches, General Manager – Business Development, AMS Water Metering.

AMS Water Metering will continue to support the AWA program in Vietnam and is part of the Australian delegation to the Vietwater 2019 Exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City in November.

WATER METERS QALCOSONIC W1 RECEIVED FRENCH, ITALIAN, DUTCH AND POLISH HYGIENIC APPROVAL

The Qalcosonic W1 water meter produced by Axioma Metering, the developer of smart water and heat metering devices, received a hygienic approval from France (ACS), Italy (ICIM), the Netherlands (KIWA) and Poland (PZH). They certify that the meters are safe and may be used for drinkable water metering.

“The received hygienic approvals are yet another acknowledgement of the quality of our products. Members from the assessing organisations from different countries, each applying its own evaluation procedure, visited our factory, audited our manufacturing processes and materials used, inspected the product quality, tested the meters 4–5 weeks in their laboratories, and confirmed that our new smart water meters Qalcosonic W1 are suitable for metering even drinkable water,” Axioma Metering’s Head of Product Development Giedrius Vaitkūnas shared his thoughts on the achievement.

Unlike the MID (Measuring Instruments Directive) certificate acknowledging that a mater meets metrology requirements of the highest level and is suitable for commercial water metering throughout the European Union, the hygienic requirements are defined by the national legislation of each individual country or region. The inspection involves the entire company’s quality policy, manufacturing process sustainability, and statements on product material composition. It takes 3 to 4 months to receive each approval.

“Currently we have started the procedure to receive hygienic approvals in Germany and the United Kingdom. We will not limit ourselves to Europe and will seek a similar approval in the Australian and US markets in the nearest future,” Mr Vaitkūnas explained the company’s plans.

The Axioma Metering team completed the development of the ultrasonic meter Qalcosonic W1 in 2018. It invested over 1.7 million euros in its development. Qalcosonic W1 is unique in its especially accurate metering and essentially unlimited data-transferring possibilities. Accurate water metering will help consumers save water and allow them to monitor its consumption remotely, while utility companies will be able to control water metering much more effectively. The meter is currently being tested by more than 30 utility companies in Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Denmark and Norway. Qalcosonic W1 received the MID certificate in autumn 2018.

AXIOMA METERING E3 METER ENTERS THE AGE OF THE INTERNET OF THINGS

Axioma Metering, the developer of smart water and heat meters, officially announced the use of LoRa technology in the energy meter E3.

LoRa is a low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) protocol designed to allow wireless communication of things operated on a battery in regional, national or global networks. The main advantage of this technology is long distance data transfer, while it does not require any complex solutions. This makes it a very attractive solution for clients because both installation of the meter and collection of data is quick and convenient.

“The employees of the Innovations Department have been working on improvement of the meter for half a year, releasing a number of test models, until the desired result was achieved – we are among the first to adapt and use LoRa technology in the heat meters. It is thanks to the company’s excellent performance and perseverance of our Innovations Department team that we are finally able to enjoy this technological achievement and boldly state that we walk hand in hand with age of IoT”, said Mantvydas Vaičius, Head of Commerce Department (Brass Meters).

The ultrasonic energy meter E3 is used to measure energy used for heating or air-conditioning in private and apartment buildings, companies and organisations. The mass production of the meter was started in the autumn of last year replacing the previously manufactured Qalcosonic E1 type meters.

“The development of this new meter was aimed at making it as advanced and friendly for consumers as possible, making it one of the universal energy meters on the market. The data from the device can be read in two or even three ways (WMBUS radio protocol, wired MBUS and MODBUS protocols and LoRa, Pulse I/O). It must also be emphasised that the device can be used in both supply and return pipelines, which can be configured by a single push of a button,” summarised Mantvydas Vaičius.
